Male and female in serious condition in Fraser Heights shooting in Surrey

A male and a female are in serious condition following a shooting at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the 16800-block of 104 Avenue in Surrey’s Fraser Heights.

Surrey RCMP located a male and a female in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to hospital, the female in serious condition and the male with life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday morning there were media reports about a blue sedan that was targeted in a driveway of a gas station at 104 Avenue and 168 Street.

Police said initial indications are that the shooting is related to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict. Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken conduct of the investigation and is being supported by partner agencies including the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C. (CFSEU-BC). Due to the life-threatening injuries of one of victims, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has also been engaged.

At this stage, it is not known if this could be retaliation for the shooting death of Indian gangster Jimi Sandhu at a hotel in Rawai in Phuket, Thailand, last week on Friday. Sandhu had been deported from Canada to India.

Here in B.C., police sources had confirmed to The VOICE that Sandhu still had connections here and was aligned with the UN Gang that is in conflict with the Brothers Keepers.
They feared that could trigger some kind of retaliation, so the CFSEU-BC was striving to ensure all intelligence was shared with other agencies in order to enable strategies to mitigate any violence.

Current road closures related to this investigation include the intersection of 104 Avenue / 168 Street in all directions, as well as 104 Avenue in both directions between 167 Street and 168 Street. The closures remain in effect for an undetermined amount of time while investigators continue to collect evidence.

“We understand that there is concern within our community regarding the ongoing violence,” said Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer Constable Sarbjit K. Sangha. “Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) along with CFSEU-BC are working day and night to gather intelligence and target those that pose the highest risk to our community.”

SGET has been deployed with an aggressive plan to target criminals who put the community at risk. This plan prioritizes those individuals who pose the highest risk to public safety because of their actions, affiliations, involvement with gangs, and drug trafficking in the province.

Since January 1, SGET has conducted:

  • 45 establishment checks for the Inadmissible Patron Program (IPP) resulting in the ejection of 1 person associated to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict (LMDGC)
  • 53 Outlaw Motorcycle Gang clubhouse checks
  • 79 curfew checks of LMDGC participants currently living in Surrey
  • 25 drug investigations that resulted in seizure of fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine and meth.

Anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam video in the area of the shooting is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
