Male shot dead in targeted hit in Surrey

SURREY RCMP are currently on scene following a report of shots fired in the area of Abbey Drive and 176th Street of Surrey.

At 5:07 p.m. on Friday, Surrey RCMP received multiple reports from the public of shots fired in that area. Police located a male victim suffering from gun shot injuries. The male was subsequently pronounced dead and investigators have not yet identified the victim.

At this time the investigators have not been able to establish if this homicide is related to gang activity or any other homicide, however, based on the scene assessment, they say this incident appears to be targeted.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in and will have conduct of the investigation.

The area surrounding the scene will be cordoned off for a significant amount of time. Traffic in the area is being rerouted. Traffic on 176th Street (Highway 17) is not affected at this time.

Officers are interviewing witnesses and canvassing the area for further information and evidence.
