Man arrested in relation to Sunday’s stabbing in Abbotsford

THE Abbotsford Police’s Major Crime Unit with the assistance of patrol officers on Tuesday arrested Derek Wilkinson, a 39-year-old Abbotsford resident, in relation to last Sunday’s stabbing.

On October 2 at 5:37 a.m., an Abbotsford police officer conducting routine patrols located an injured man in the parking lot of 31940 South Fraser Way. The 41-year-old victim was suffering from a stab wound.
Emergency medical care was provided to the man before he was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Wilkinson has been charged with assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm. He remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
Sgt. Paul Walker, Media Relations Officer, said: “Mr. Wilkinson is a man with an extensive criminal history of violent offences and a demonstrating behaviour of failing to comply with court-ordered conditions.”
