Man charged after over $56,000 worth of merchandise stolen from Metrotown business

BURNABY RCMP announced on Monday that charges have been approved against a 41-year-old man after he was identified as a suspect through surveillance video in six separate thefts at one retail store located at Metrotown.

Six alleged thefts were captured on surveillance video between September 8 and September 17, resulting in over $56,000 worth of merchandise being stolen.

While conducting targeted enforcement in the mall on September 28 in relation to the series of thefts, Burnaby RCMP’s Community Response Team located and arrested the suspect.

The BC Prosecution Service has approved six charges of theft over $5,000 against 41-year-old Darryl John Dolan.

“The partnerships our team has fostered with local businesses has gone a long way in progressing files like this into the court system,” said Sgt. Neil Jones of Burnaby RCMP’s Community Response Team. “Often, there are only a few individuals responsible for an overwhelming number of these types of crimes, which makes these targeted enforcement projects necessary.”

Dolan remains in custody. The file is now before the courts.
