Man identified as suspect in Surrey sexual assault arrested

SURREY RCMP on Wednesday announced that Matthew Christopher Hamm, 43, who was identified as the suspect in an ongoing investigation into an alleged break-and-enter and sexual assault that occurred on Saturday, May 21, has been arrested.

On Wednesday at approximately 10:20 a.m., Surrey RCMP received a report of a possible sighting of the suspect in the 9600-block of 120 Street. Frontline officers attended the area, located and arrested the suspect without incident.

On May 21 at approximately 6:40 a.m., Surrey RCMP were called to the 12900-block of 101A Avenue for a report of a break-and-enter at a residence. Frontline officers spoke with the adult female resident, who reported that she had been sexually assaulted by an unknown male suspect. The female victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
