Manmeet Singh was sentenced to life in prison Friday for the murder of his wife Ravinder Bhangu.  He will not be eligible for parole for 16 years.

28-year-old Manmeet Singh pleaded guilty to hacking Ravinder Bhangu to death at the newspaper office she worked at in July 2011.

Singh’s guilty plea to second-degree murder meant he will receive an automatic sentence of life in prison.

Crown and Defence have agreed he should not be eligible for parole for 16 years.
