AFTER over a year of planning, the countdown is on for the City of Maple Ridge to host over 3,000 athletes, coaches and sports officials for the 2024 BC Summer Games, which will take place from July 17 to 21.
With 30 sports competitions scheduled across 19 venues in Maple Ridge and surrounding communities, the BC Summer Games will showcase athletes from across the province, local talent, and community spirit.
“It’s go time! We are ready to host an incredible BC Summer Games in Maple Ridge, inviting thousands into our community to cheer on the athletes,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “It’s our opportunity to showcase Maple Ridge’s natural beauty, local businesses, and hospitality – all of which make our city a great place to visit. This is a monumental undertaking, and we are grateful for the team of volunteers who have been working for months to bring this all together. It’s our time to shine Maple Ridge!”
The Games kick off on Wednesday, July 17 with the arrival of athletes from around BC. Some of the competitions start on Thursday, July 18, and the opening ceremonies take place in the evening. Sports competitions will run from Friday, July 19, to noon on Sunday, July 21, followed by the athletes heading home. The event closes with the Volunteer Appreciation Event in the late afternoon.
The Games will feature a wide array of sports and activities, offering something for everyone. Spectators are invited to cheer on athletes participating in:
- Swimming, artistic swimming, sailing, towed water sports, and rowing competitions
- Basketball, baseball, field lacrosse, box lacrosse, soccer, softball, rugby, ultimate, volleyball and beach volleyball
- Athletics, triathlon, wrestling, equestrian competition, and golf
- Opening ceremonies
The most up-to-date sports and events schedules and locations will be available at BCSummerGames.ca. There are no admission charges or ticketing requirements for any of the competitions or the Opening Ceremonies.
“Not only does the Games bring many economic spinoffs to our community and local business, but they will also inspire our local youth to engage in sport – fostering a healthier and more active community and igniting a sense of pride and volunteerism as we host this major provincial competition,” said Ruimy.
