Maple Ridge shooting victim succumbs to injuries

A man shot in Maple Ridge has succumbed to his injuries after several days in hospital, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced on Friday.

On January 20 at 2:40 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the 22200-block of 123 Avenue in Maple Ridge. Frontline officers located an 18-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene of a collision.

A short time later, police received a call of a vehicle on fire in the 20800-block of 123 Avenue, believed to be linked to the shooting. The Ridge Meadows RCMP Investigative Support Team (IST) and Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) attended the scene and took conduct of the investigation.

On January 25, the victim of the shooting, who remained in hospital, succumbed to his injuries. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the investigation and will continue to work closely in partnership with the Ridge Meadows RCMP, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS).

“If you were in the area of 222 Street and 123 Avenue or the north side of Westview Secondary School, at 209 Street and 123 Avenue on January 20 between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., please contact IHIT immediately,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “This is a tragic situation where a young man’s life was taken from him.  We’re asking for witnesses to come forward.”
