METRO Vancouver has awarded $300,000 in regional cultural project grants to support the work of 40 local arts and culture organizations.
Through its annual grant program, Metro Vancouver provides up to $10,000 per grant to help organizations research and deliver new cultural programs while engaging new audiences.
“A thriving arts and culture sector helps make Metro Vancouver a vibrant place to live,” said Mike Hurley, Board Chair of Metro Vancouver, on Tuesday. “Our $300,000 investment will help deliver 40 projects whose cultural and economic benefits will ripple through our region’s communities.”
Grant recipients represent the cultural mosaic of the region, showcasing creativity across a broad range of disciplines and creating opportunities for audiences throughout the region to engage with arts and culture. Supported projects will take place in communities across Metro Vancouver.
Metro Vancouver’s cultural grants program was created in 1991 to support regionally significant cultural institutions and to recognize their broader economic impact on tourism and job creation. The program continues to be funded by a Cultural Grant Reserve Fund, with no impact on Metro Vancouver’s tax requisition.
This year, Metro Vancouver received 129 applications from organizations seeking over $1.1 million in funding for proposed projects.
