BRENDA Bailey, BC NDP candidate for Vancouver-South Granville, commenting on September’s Labour Force Survey results on Friday, noted: “As high national interest rates and global challenges continue to be felt across Canada, BC continues to be strong with 23,600 new full-time jobs over the past year, and 64,300 new jobs in David Eby’s two years as leader of the BC NDP.”
Bailey said that B.C.’s unemployment rate is 6%, significantly below the national average of 6.5% and Alberta’s unemployment of 7.5%. BC also has the highest average wages in the country, surpassing Alberta this month.
She added: “As BC continues to face global economic challenges, David Eby and the BC NDP are working to attract investment and boost our economy with more good-paying jobs, so people can build good lives in BC.
“As recently highlighted by economists, BC has the fastest per capita GDP growth in the country and the fastest growth in capital investment. BC’s direct capital investment is 90% higher than when John Rustad was a BC Liberal cabinet minister.
“While economists are calling [BC Conservative Leader] John Rustad’s promises ‘fairy dust,’ David Eby and the BC NDP are delivering a plan to leverage our province’s natural strengths to deliver more good-paying jobs from mining and manufacturing to health care and technology.”
