New Westminster Police seek to identify hit-and-run driver

ON Monday, October 23 at approximately 8 p.m., New Westminster Police located a pedestrian that had been struck by a driver in the parking lot of a gas station near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Eighth Street.

Officers provided aid to the 84-year-old man who had sustained serious injuries. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and investigators began working to identify the driver.

Investigators are seeking witnesses and dash cam footage from the area of 6th Avenue and Eighth Street from 7:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a white pick up truck with construction equipment in the box of the truck. The driver is described as an East Asian male.

“We urge motorists who were driving near the intersection before or after the time of the hit-and-run to check their dashcam footage for similar-looking vehicles,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Your surveillance or dash camera may have captured something. Please check.”
