Next MLA for Vancouver-Hastings: Raj Sihota or Niki Sharma?

VANCOUVER-HASTINGS is regarded as a very safe NDP riding, and so, with incumbent MLA Shane Simpson, Minister for Social Development and Poverty Reduction, having decided last week not to seek re-election after four terms, whoever wins the NDP nomination would for sure be the next MLA.

And the two top contenders right now are two well-known South Asian women: NDP Executive Director Raj Sihota and lawyer and former chair of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation Niki Sharma.

Both women have strong political connections and powerful NDPers are already taking sides. We will just have to wait and see – without taking sides – how it all turns out.
