With the Sentra having the honour of being the second-best selling product for Nissan in Canada, for 2017 the Sentra is now larger, restyled, improved and has a host of new available safety and driving aid technologies – in fact, plenty of newly available safety feature offerings have been added, some of which are not available or very rare in the compact car segment.
Inside, the revised Sentra interior features a new steering wheel, new available power driver’s seat with power lumbar, new center cluster and audio display design, new console and shifter knob and refined seat fabrics.
Also available on the Sentra for the first time is: Forward Emergency Braking (FEB), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
We test drove the sporty orientated turbocharged Sentra SR model with the six speed manual transmission (Priced from $25,598) with as standard features including 17 inch alloy wheels, Nissan intelligent key with pushbutton start. Options included the premium package ($3,400) with leather (drivers power and lumbar) seats, Bose premium speaker package, Nissanconnect with navigation and mobile apps, 5.8 inch color display, blind spot warning system Rear cross traffic alert system, and 3-coat paint. The Sentra cabin is very good, the bigger dimensions providing a roomy, light, airy area with plenty of space in the leg, head and shoulder room department. The seating positions for the driver are a standout being higher than its competitors with great front and side visibility. The dash, controls and instruments are all ergonomically designed and well finished. With the sheer amount of equipment, the Sentra is a comfortable, enjoyable car.
One the road, the Sentra SR with its turbocharged 188hp engine and six speed manual transmission was blast to drive. The manual transmission is slick and well geared and shifts are fast and faultless. The cabin is quiet at high speeds and features a comfortable smooth ride in all situations with little road noise intrusion. Fuel-economy is good with the manual transmission offering 9.1/7.3L/100km (city/hwy). With its larger size, impressive standard equipment and quality cabin the new well-equipped Sentra SR is a sporty family sedan that offers an entertaining ride.
