NORTH Vancouver RCMP are looking to identify youths for their illegal use of a local track.

On Wednesday, August 12 at approximately 2 p.m., North Vancouver RCMP received multiple reports of what appeared to be youths riding e-scooters and e-dirt bikes on the Fen Burdett track located at 1648 Jones Avenue. Complainants reported that the youths were riding on the sidewalk and on the track at dangerous speeds and performing stunts, putting other track users at risk. The youths left the area prior to police attendance.

In an effort to identify the suspects, police are releasing images of the riders and are hoping the public can help identify them.

“The Fen Burdett track is intended to provide a safe recreational space for pedestrians,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for North Vancouver RCMP. “The operation of motorized vehicles on the track not only creates significant safety concerns for other users but can also result in damage to the track surface and surrounding infrastructure. E-dirt bikes are also prohibited on public roadways, and we are asking anyone who can identify the riders to contact police.”

Since January, North Vancouver RCMP, in partnership with public safety stakeholders, has conducted education and enforcement initiatives aimed at addressing the unsafe and illegal use of e-dirt bikes and e-scooters. These efforts followed an increase in complaints involving riders operating at excessive speeds, riding on sidewalks, failing to wear helmets, and engaging in other unsafe behaviours in public spaces.

While these initiatives have led to positive results, a small number of individuals continue to disregard the law and the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act by operating e-dirt bikes illegally. Police are reminding parents that e-dirt bikes are not street legal and that they are responsible for ensuring these vehicles are used only where permitted. Failure to do so can place riders and the public at risk and may result in enforcement action.
