North Vancouver crash claims one life, leaves a second critically injured

ONE woman has died and her passenger remains in critical condition after a head-on collision on Low Level Road in North Vancouver on Tuesday night.

“It’s a very sad morning,” said North Vancouver Sgt. Peter DeVries. “We know that this woman’s family and friends are grieving today, that in the coming days and weeks, they will be faced with the difficult task of coping with a tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

The collision occurred just after 11 p.m. on March 2 on Low Level Road, west of the Neptune/Cargill overpass. The woman and her passenger were eastbound when a westbound vehicle driven by a lone male occupant appears to have crossed the centre line.

“The vehicle occupied by the lone male was on fire when emergency services arrived, but the male had been removed before the fire started,” said DeVries.

All three were transported to local hospitals. The woman was declared deceased and her passenger remains in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle remains in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, and as the investigation continues, officers will work to uncover all available evidence pointing to the cause of this collision, DeVries said.

Low Level Road was closed in the hours following the collision as the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service conducted an analysis of the scene and gathered evidence.
