North Vancouver RCMP seek public assistance to identify assault suspect (update)

AUGUST 19 UPDATE: Assault suspect identified

North Vancouver RCMP announced on Friday that the suspect in the assault incident has been identified. “A number of people came forward with information, including the suspect himself,” said Sgt. Peter DeVries. “We want to thank both the public and the individual involved for doing the right thing by contacting us.”

 

NORTH Vancouver RCMP are seeking public assistance to identify a suspect in an assault that occurred on W Esplanade on July 18 just after 5 p.m.

An individual who had been riding a skateboard was accosted by a man who had been walking on the sidewalk. The man, who is described as older, having white hair and wearing glasses, claimed the skateboarder had almost struck him when riding past, and appeared upset about this.

During the ensuing exchange, the man is alleged to have assaulted the skateboarder.

The suspect is described as:

  • An older lighter-skinned man
  • Approximately 6 feet tall
  • Wearing glasses
  • Shoulder length grey hair and a long grey moustache

In an effort to further the investigation, RCMP are releasing photos of the suspect. Anyone who believes they know the person’s identity is asked to contact North Vancouver RCMP at (604) 985-1311 and quote file number 2022-17736.

“We also are encouraging the person who was involved in the incident to identify himself,” said Cpl. Melissa Jongema.
