OBITUARY: AJAB “JABBY” BAINS

The Yuba City community has lost a beloved and esteemed figure, Ajab “Jabby” Bains, who passed away peacefully on August 15 at the age of 73. Born on November 30, 1950, to proud and loving parents Bakhtawar and Gian Kaur Bains, he was the eldest of five children and a cherished member of the first generation of Punjabi Americans born in Yuba City, CA.

Ajab is survived by his devoted wife, Lata Kaur Bains, his sons Gene and Lucky Singh Bains, his sister Chinty Bains, and his four grandchildren. His 73 years on this earth were rich with love, purpose, and joy.
Even as a child, stories of his determination and spirit were legendary—such as driving and discing with a Caterpillar tractor at just five years old. Throughout his life, he touched the hearts of everyone he met. His boundless generosity, warm heart, and unwavering positive outlook were gifts to all who knew him. Ajab thrived on living life to the fullest, always with love, joy, and a deep sense of purpose.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. on August 21 at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond Street, Yuba City, CA. Prayer services will follow at Tierra Buena Sikh Temple, Yuba City, CA.
