OBITUARY: TARRY BACKTAWAR SANDHU

Tarry Backtawar Sandhu was born in Dhuda Dilkapur, District Jalandhar, India. He was one of eight siblings (predeceased by father Shankar Singh, mother Santo Kaur, brother Sabu Singh, and sister Mindo Kaur).
Tarry immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his Chacha Chanan Singh, Chachi Charn Kaur, and family to Lake Cowichan, B.C.
Tarry graduated from UBC in 1968, married Susie in 1969, and welcomed daughters Carrie in 1977 and Kristy in 1979.
Tarry lost his wife Susie in 2018 and is survived by his daughters Carrie (Steve), Kristy (Vik), and adoring grandchildren Karina, Shaan, and Lara.
Tarry lived an independent and full life and was so proud to be a loving Nana Ji.
Tarry was a beloved Mama Ji and Uncle to so many members of his extended family.
Tarry was an educated, well-travelled, news savvy, and kind man. It is these qualities that he demonstrated to his kids, grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Tarry’s battle with acute leukemia was a shocking, short, and difficult journey.
Tarry would want everyone to stay strong, live life without regret, and cherish moments with your dear family and friends.
In addition to the funeral service on May 16 at 1 p.m. at Riverside Funeral Home, a bhog (prayer service) will be held at 3 p.m. on May 16 at Gurdwara Nanak Niwas, 8600 No 5 Road in Richmond.
