One person dead in two-vehicle collision on 128 Street in Surrey’s Newton

SURREY RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Saturday in Newton.

On November 25 at approximately 9:24 p.m., police responded to a report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision at the intersection of 128 Street and 82 Avenue. A white Ford Mustang was travelling southbound, while a black Toyota Corolla was northbound on 128 street. At the intersection of 82 Avenue, the Corolla executed a left-hand, westbound turn, into the path of the Mustang. The subsequent collision caused significant damage to both vehicles.

The male driver of the Mustang was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries. The adult male passenger of the Corolla was transported to a local area hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Corolla fled the scene on foot. The driver was described as a South Asian male in his 20’s, wearing a grey hoodie and jeans.

Alcohol and speed have not been ruled out as contributing factors, and the investigation into the collision is in the very early stages. Police are on scene examining the collision, collecting video and interviewing witnesses.

Police said 128 Street will be closed to all traffic from 80 Avenue to 84 Avenue, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Anyone with more information, including dash cam footage around the area of 128 Street between 80 and 84 avenues between 9:20 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, and quote File 2023-194726.
