ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police in collaboration with the York Regional Police (YRP) Hold Up Unit, York Air Support, and Peel Tactical Unit, arrested a man after a violent carjacking in the City of Mississauga.
On Friday, July 14, the accused was operating a stolen 2022 white Ford F550 cargo van as he fled dangerously from YRP officers. At approximately 11:30 a.m., upon entering the Region of Peel, in the area of Goreway Drive and Morning Star Drive in Mississauga, the accused deliberately rear-ended the victim’s vehicle.
The victim exited his vehicle, at which point the accused entered the driver’s seat of the victim’s vehicle, and a struggle ensued within the vehicle. The accused then fled the area at a high rate of speed with the victim inside. While running red lights, the accused made good his escape and, a short time later, forced the victim out of the vehicle while in motion. The victim received minor injuries as a result.
In co-operation with the YRP’s Air Support Unit, PRP located the victim’s vehicle near Lakeshore Road and 36th Street in the City of Toronto. A plan was formulated, and due to efficient communication between the partnering agencies, the Peel Tactical and Rescue Unit successfully conducted a high-risk vehicle stop, and the accused was arrested.
At the time of this offence the accused was on multiple forms of judicial release for similar outstanding criminal offenses, which include: two counts of flight from police, two counts of dangerous operation, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime, impaired operation and seven counts of fail to comply with court orders.
