ONTARIO’S Hamilton Police have made a third arrest in connection to the shooting death of Indian student Harsimrat Randhawa.

On April 17, Randhawa, a Mohawk College Student, was shot and killed while she stood near a bus stop at the intersection of Upper James Street and South Bend Road in the City of Hamilton.

Through collected video, investigators determined that the passenger of a black Mercedes SUV fired at the occupants of a white sedan. Shortly after the shooting, the white sedan fled northbound on Upper James and the Mercedes travelled westbound on South Bend.

Shots also entered the rear window of a residence on Allenby Avenue where the occupants were watching television a few feet away. Fortunately, no one was injured in the home.

After several weeks of investigation, the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit announced that 32-year-old Jerdaine Foster had been arrested on August 5 and charged with first degree murder, and attempted murder (three counts).

On August 7, members of the Hamilton Police Service located and arrested 26-year-old Obiesea Okafor in North York. He has been charged with attempted murder (three counts).

The Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit has now arrested a third person in the murder of Harsimrat. On September 8, with the assistance of the Toronto Police Service, 29-year-old Jaiyden Jones of no fixed address was arrested without incident in Toronto. He appeared in court later that day and has been charged with:

  • First degree murder of Randhawa
  • Attempted murder (three counts)

Police said this investigation is ongoing, and detectives continue to relentlessly pursue all leads to identify and arrest those involved in this murder.
