Ontario’s Peel Regional Police charge Varinder Kumar, Sukvir Singh and Sandeep Sogi in fraudulent cheque ring

The group was responsible for approximately $380,000 of fraudulent cheque acts

ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police on Monday announced that investigators from the Fraud Bureau have arrested and charged Varinder Kumar, 41, of Brampton, Sukvir Singh, 30, of Brampton and Sandeep Sogi, 26, of Toronto in relation to a fraudulent cheque ring operation.

In March, fraud investigators were contacted by a major financial institution in relation to cheque-related frauds. The investigation quickly established a group allegedly responsible for several cheque frauds in the Region of Peel. Fraud investigators were able to determine that this group was responsible for approximately $380,000 of fraudulent cheque acts.

During the course of the investigation it was discovered that the group committing these cheque frauds were actively targeting vulnerable sectors of the population in committing these frauds.

On Friday December 8, the three suspects were arrested and charged with multiple criminal offences.

* Varinder Kumar was charged with five counts of fraud over $5,000, four counts of utter forged documents and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

* Sukvir Singh was charged with three counts of fraud over $5,000 and three counts of utter forged documents.

* Sandeep Sogi was charged with three counts of fraud over $5,000 and three counts of utter forged documents.

Al three will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date.

“Criminal acts perpetrated against our vulnerable sectors will not be tolerated and those responsible will be held accountable. This investigation is an excellent example of collaboration with our financial institution partners,” said Inspector Sean Brennan of Financial Crimes Services.
