Pedestrian receives life-threatening injuries in single vehicle collision in Richmond

ON Saturday (February 2) at 9 a.m., Richmond RCMP responded to the area of No. 3 Road and Alderbridge Way for reports of a serious single vehicle collision. A late 1990s model Volkswagen 2-door allegedly driven by an 18-year old female from Kamloops collided with a lamp standard.

A nearby pedestrian, a 22-year old male from Richmond, suffered critical injuries after being struck and trapped underneath the vehicle. The man was not believed to be on the roadway. Emergency crews managed to extricate the male and he was rushed to hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries. The woman suffered minor injuries.

The Richmond RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) is investigating along with assistance from the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS). The debris field of the collision location was large and required closures of the surrounding area for many hours during the course of the investigation.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision.
