ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police is informing the public of an advance fee scam involving the fraudulent sale of music and sporting event tickets in the Greater Toronto Area.

From February to October, a comprehensive investigation began after multiple fraud reports were received alleging that a suspect fraudulently sold concert and sporting event tickets to an unsuspecting victim, disguising them as being from legitimate and reputable ticket sale companies.

Investigators believe the victim in these incidents are at a financial loss of over $38,000.

On Wednesday, November 13, an arrest warrant was issued for Jaspal Singh Thiara, a 37-year-old man from Toronto, for the offences of:

  • Fraud over $5,000.
  • Fail to comply

Thiara is already on a judicial release for similar charges.  Given the heightened concert awareness in the GTA this week, it is believed he may still be actively seeking additional unsuspecting victims.

Investigators believe that additional victims may exist.

Peel Regional Police say they are dedicated to protecting individuals and groups in the community. They encourage the community to learn more about these and other trends currently affecting Canadians by visiting the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and the Peel Regional Police website.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fraud Bureau at 905-453–2121 ext. 3335. Information may also be left anonymously by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.
