A Peel Regional Police officer has been suspended after he was caught on social media taking part in a pro-Khalistani protest outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton on Sunday.

Social media has identified him as Sgt. Harinder Sohi, who was a former media officer.

Peel Regional Police told the media that they are aware of a video circulating on social media showing one of their off-duty officers “involved in a demonstration.”

They added: “This officer has since been suspended in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act. We are investigating the circumstances in totality depicted in the video,” the Toronto Star reported.

The officer’s involvement has sparked a storm of controversy about police taking sides in disputes.
