Pete Fry announces candidacy for Mayor of Vancouver

VANCOUVER’S Green City Councillor Pete Fry has announced his intention to run for Mayor of the City of Vancouver. He said he is entering the race at a time when many residents are feeling squeezed by the rising cost of living and frustrated by City Hall decisions that feel detached from everyday realities.

First elected to City Council in 2018, Fry says he has built a reputation as a steady, caring, detail-focused councillor with a record of delivering concrete results, including strengthening renter protections, advancing climate action as a daily-life issue, supporting arts and culture and small businesses, and consistently pushing for transparency and accountability in City decision-making.

“If you’re part of this city, you should be able to have a good life here,” said Fry. “Right now, too many people feel like they’re doing everything right and still falling behind. I’m running to focus City Hall on the basics: decisions made in daylight, services people can count on, and policies that actually make life more affordable.”

He says his decision comes amid growing public fatigue with winner-takes-all politics and headline-driven decision-making at City Hall. His campaign emphasizes calm, competent leadership, focused on clear budgets, plain-language explanations, and measurable follow-through rather than spin.

The campaign platform will focus on five core priorities:

  • Community Services: public amenities and core services people can count on

  • Community Safety: caring, responsible approaches so everyone feels safe

  • Community Economy: supporting good jobs, arts & culture, and small businesses

  • Community Well-Being: a clean, green, healthy, and just city

  • Community Leadership: fair, transparent, and accountable government that works for everyone

“People aren’t asking for big promises. They’re asking for a city that works,” Fry said. “As Mayor, I’ll bring an approach grounded in honesty and follow-through: clear explanations, no mystery math, and accountability when things don’t add up.”
