Police incident in North Vancouver ends peacefully

ONE person is in custody after an incident led to a large police response and shutdown of a Central Lonsdale neighbourhood on Friday morning.

On January 5 at approximately 8:15 a.m., North Vancouver RCMP received a report from a concerned citizen, stating they had witnessed a man acting erratically and brandishing a weapon outside a residence in the 200-block of East 18th Street and was worried about their wellbeing.

When officers responded to the residence in question, the man proceeded to barricade himself inside the home and refused to cooperate, police said.

Due to the potential for risk to officer safety and the mental state of the man, the Integrated Emergency Response Team and crisis negotiators were called in to assist. After several hours, the man was safely removed from the residence and taken to the hospital.

“We’d like to thank our community members for their patience while police contained the scene and completed their investigation,” said Constable Mansoor Sahak, spokesperson for North Vancouver RCMP. “We are not seeking any additional witnesses and want to reassure residents that there is no risk to the public.”
