Police-involved shooting in West Vancouver

SHORTLY before 3 a.m. on Monday, West Vancouver Police officers attended the westbound off-ramp to the TransCanada Highway at 15th Street for an impaired driving complaint involving a male driver.

During the interaction with the male there was an exchange of gunfire. Another officer reportedly attempted to use their police vehicle to stop the man who was struck, according to West Vancouver Police and the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC.

The man was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and deployed investigators to the scene. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the sequence of events during the incident, including the actions of both the man and police.
