PREMIER David Eby on Tuesday in a statement marking Muharram said: “As Muharram begins, Muslim communities in British Columbia and around the world mark the beginning of a new year and enter a sacred time of remembrance and reflection.

“For many Muslims, this period is marked by prayer, contemplation and the commemoration of Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), whose life and legacy continue to inspire people today.

“As families and communities gather, Muharram offers an opportunity to reflect on the values that guide us through times of challenge and change, including compassion, courage and service to others.

“To all those observing Muharram, I extend my sincere thoughts and reflections during this time.”
