PREMIER John Horgan’s message on Milad-un-Nabi:
“As Premier of the Province of British Columbia, it is my pleasure to congratulate all Muslims on the 2020 celebration of Milad-un-Nabi.
“Celebrated on the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Milad-un-Nabi marks the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. In the early days of Islam, this day was commemorated with the recitation and singing of poetry and songs composed in his honour.
“This year, the COVID-19 pandemic requires all of us to celebrate differently. While large gatherings cannot happen this year, I know the spirit of celebration will bring people together safely in digital spaces and with phone calls with family.
“British Columbia is a vibrant, diverse and welcoming province, and our Muslim communities have contributed greatly to this spirit of harmony.
“Please accept my best wishes for Milad-Un-Nabi!”
