Prominent Fijian Vincent Puran Prakash passes away

THE Fijian community in British Columbia is mourning the passing away of prominent media personality Vincent Puran Prakash.

According to a post on ‘Fijian Community in Vancouver’ Facebook page, Vincent, who had been the producer and director for Jai Fiji TV in Vancouver since 1997, passed away peacefully at Burnaby General Hospital on Saturday, December 19. He was 77.

He was also the President of Bula Fiji Association that held the annual Vancouver Fiji Festival which attracted huge crowds and prominent personalities at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby.

Vincent migrated to Canada in 1968 from Nausori, Fiji.

According to Irshad Khan, Vincent was very Fijian at heart. “Despite living in Canada for more than 50 years, and thousands of miles away from Fiji, he never forgot his roots and the Fijian culture. Hence, he laid the foundation for Fijian-based organizations and events,” he wrote on Facebook.
Vincent leaves behind his wife Vina, whom he married on October 31, 1970, daughters Regina and Jessica, sons-in-law Ron Singh and Spencer Russell, and grandchildren Janaya Lal, Makayla Singh and Ryken Singh.

  1. Thank you for the beautiful write up on my father Mr. Vincent Puran Prakash. We are still in shock with his sudden death. He has left such a huge legacy within our family and the Fijian community. We will miss his smiling face, his generosity and unconditional love. We thank all those who have called and provided support during this difficult time.
