Protesters depart and roads re-open near the Pacific Highway Border Crossing

SURREY RCMP announced at 8:35 p.m. on Saturday that as of 8 p.m., the vast majority of protesters and vehicles had departed the area and just a small group of protesters remained at the corner of 176 Street and 8 Avenue on the sidewalk.

Traffic is now moving on 176 Street in all directions and the public can access the Pacific Highway Border Crossing. Vehicle road checks will remain in place.

Police will be maintaining a large presence throughout the evening, with a continual assessment of the situation.

Investigations remain underway into unlawful activity earlier in the day. This includes reports of intimidation and alleged assault against members of the media.

“It’s been a very busy day for our teams on the ground, and those supporting operations from behind the scenes,” said Sgt. Elenore Sturko. “Our work here is not done though, and the public can expect a continued police presence in the days and nights ahead.”
