BC United Leader Kevin Falcon on Wednesday announced Puneet Sandhar as the party’s first candidate in preparation for the upcoming Fall 2024 provincial election. She will run to be MLA in Surrey-Serpentine River.
“I’m running as the BC United MLA for Surrey-Serpentine River because Surrey residents are tired of the broken promises from David Eby and the current NDP Government,” said Sandhar. “Trust is what we build our lives on. As a mother of two girls, and an active member of this community, I’m determined to reclaim that trust. I’m committed to fighting for a better Surrey, not only for my daughters, but also for future generations. It’s time to put an end to the current government taking our community for granted.”
“I’m pleased to announce Puneet Sandhar as our first BC United candidate for the upcoming provincial election,” said Falcon. “Her passion for community advocacy and understanding of BC’s housing sector, coupled with her legal background and unwavering dedication to Surrey, make her an invaluable asset to our BC United team. The residents of Surrey-Serpentine River will be well-served with a competent, reliable, and tireless fighter like Puneet.”
Puneet Sandhar immigrated to Canada in 2002 with her husband, Jatinder. Her hard work led her to be called to the BC Bar in 2006, and she became a partner at Sanghera Sandhar Law Group in 2012.
Sandhar’s extensive community involvement spans both government and non-profit boards, including the Legal Services Society of BC, the Board of Variance for the City of Surrey, the Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society, and the Mayor’s Business Advisory Committee for the City of Surrey. Currently, she serves on the Law Society of BC Complainants’ Review Committee.
In the 2017 provincial election, Sandhar ran as the BC Liberal candidate for Surrey-Panorama. She has since contributed her insights on current affairs as a commentator for Global BC and The Orca. Sandhar received the Queens Jubilee Medal in 2012 for her exemplary volunteer work within the community. While raising her two daughters, Kirpa, 11, and Daya, 7, Sandhar says she remains committed to actively giving back to the community that welcomed her to Canada.
“I look forward to working hard to earn the support of Surrey-Serpentine River voters so that I can join Kevin Falcon and our BC United team in Victoria,” said Sandhar. “I am prepared to be the strong voice that the people of Surrey-Serpentine River need in the legislature to bring competence, responsibility, and trust back into government.”
“Today’s announcement kicks off BC United nominations as we prepare for the upcoming provincial election. British Columbians can expect strong, diverse candidates to be announced as we continue to build an alternative to the NDP that will focus on both a positive vision and results,” said Falcon.
