Regimental funeral for RCMP Constable Frederick “Rick” O’Brien on October 4 at Langley Events Centre

THE BC RCMP will hold a regimental funeral for Constable Frederick “Rick” O’Brien on Wednesday, October 4 at 2 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre, 7888 200 Street in Langley.

The regimental funeral will include a procession, and a memorial service concluding with a final salute for O’Brien.

The RCMP is working with local groups, schools and businesses that may be directly impacted by the service. Motorists travelling through Langley should anticipate temporary road closures and traffic delays near the Langley Events Centre on October 4 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The following areas will be restricted for temporary road closures for the duration of the funeral:

  • 80 Avenue, between 200 Street and 204 Street
  • 76 Avenue, between 200 Street and 202a Street
  • 202A Street, between 74B Avenue and 80 Avenue

Patrons requiring access to other businesses (gym, sports clinics, tennis centre) at Langley Events Centre complex are requested to use the 200 Street entrance for access.

Seating at the venue will be reserved for family, invited guests, designated officials and uniformed first responders participating in the funeral march.

Members of the public are invited to observe the RCMP procession as uniformed first responders march northbound on 202A Street from 76 Avenue towards the Langley Events Centre. Those unable to attend in person can watch the regimental funeral on various local television broadcasts or the RCMP livestream.

The BC RCMP said that in lieu of gifts or flowers, individuals are encouraged to wear red on October 4 to recognize and remember O’Brien for his bravery, commitment to public safety, and for making the ultimate sacrifice in service of his community.
