CHARGES have been laid in the September 18, 2020 shooting at Richmond’s Manzo Itamae Japanese Restaurant at 9020 Capstan Way, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced on Wednesday.

On Monday, November 15, 2021, 23-year-old Richard Charles Reed was charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of 44-year-old Jian Jun Zhu by the B.C. Prosecution Service. Five additional counts were laid against Reed.

On September 18, 2020, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Richmond RCMP responded to reports of gunshots at the Richmond restaurant. First responders found two men with gunshot wounds. One of the victims, Zhu, died the following day at the hospital. The second victim was transported to hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
