ON Sunday, December 1 at approximately 4:10 p.m., Richmond RCMP officers responded to multiple reports of a man carrying a knife in the 5400-block of No. 3 Road. The individual was reportedly seen exiting a train, falling down an escalator, and dropping what appeared to be a firearm that was later determined to be an airsoft pistol. Witnesses also reported the man was chasing after a woman.
The RCMP said that officers arrived on the scene within minutes of being dispatched. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody without incident, and a weapon was seized. No injuries were reported among civilians or officers. The suspect was arrested for assault with a weapon, and the investigation is ongoing.
“We acknowledge the concern this incident may have caused in our community.” said Inspector Mike Roberts, Richmond RCMP Operations Officer, on Monday. “Our officers acted quickly to address the situation, and we are grateful for the public’s assistance in reporting it.”
