ABBOTSFORD Police announced at 9:38 p.m. on Monday that Highway 1 eastbound was closed at Whatcom Road after a semi-truck collision. No other vehicles were involved.

Police said traffic was being diverted off Whatcom Road and back onto the highway eastbound. Currently, westbound traffic was down to a single lane.

No injuries were reported. The driver of the semi-truck has been detained by police for an impaired driving investigation.

On Tuesday, police said that their officers responded to the rollover collision at approximately 8:05 p.m. Preliminary findings indicate the truck was originally travelling westbound when it veered into the center median, crossed into oncoming eastbound traffic, and rolled over.

The driver, a 66-year-old man, was detained at the scene for impaired driving and transported to hospital with minor injuries. He was later released from police custody pending further investigation, which includes awaiting lab results.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, observed the semi-truck’s driving behaviour prior to the collision, or has dashcam footage to contact the department them at 604-859-5225.
