VANCOUVER Police have made an arrest after Crown counsel approved a second-degree murder charge in connection with a homicide on Granville Street late last year.

James Christopher Holmgren, 35, was arrested on Tuesday by Vancouver Police Homicide Unit detectives.

On November 17, 2025, the VPD was called to the area of Granville Street and Helmcken Street following reports of a man suffering from a stab wound. The victim, Aymen Al-Hafidh, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Al-Hafidh was 20 years old at the time of his death.

James Holmgren remains in custody.
