For the second time in less than a week, Vancouver Police are on the hunt for a gunman, after a shooting in the city’s Fraserview neighbourhood early this morning.
Officers were called out to home around Victoria Drive just south of 54th Avenue shortly after 12:30 a.m. They found a 32-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the backyard of a home. He died shortly after in hospital.
Constable Brian Montague says they don’t have a lot of information to share right now. “This is definitely targeted; it has all the indications of a targeted attack [but] whether it’s associated to gangs or drugs, again, too early to say at this point.”
The VPD say they do know who the victim is, adding they’ve dealt with him before but they don’t have any suspects right now. Investigators are expected to stick around the neighborhood for several hours, combing for evidence and speaking to witnesses.
On Tuesday, Vancouver Police were called to Southeast Marine Drive following a shooting in the middle of the afternoon. One man was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but Montague says they haven’t connected the two cases yet.
“It’s way too early to tell if this is related to any specific event, whether it’s related to any other incident that has recently occurred.”
Police are appealing to witnesses in both cases and are asking anyone who knows anything to call the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at 604.717.2541 or CrimeStoppers at 1.800.222.8477.
