EDWIN Shek-Yin Cheng, 42, of Richmond was shot dead in the parking lot of Richmond’sĀ Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh Temple at 18691 Westminster Highway on Friday night.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced his name Saturday morning. He was known to police.
The VOICE has found that a man by the same name of Edwin Shek Yin Cheng of Vancouver was named in a March 2011 case along with Wendy Hung and Kelvin Kwongyan Mah of Vancouver and Wing Wa (Nick) Tsoi of Richmond when Calgary Police arrested and charged them with 28 fraud-related crimes.Police at the time said that rooms were allegedly rented at a downtown Calgary hotel by people using aliases and a fraudulent credit card. Purchases were made at several businesses in south Calgary using counterfeit credit cards and several cash advances were also made using counterfeit credit cards at Calgary casinos. Calgary police economic crime unit called it “a commercial enterprise.”
A person in the gurdwara told The VOICE on Friday night that the shooting had nothing to do with the gurdwara. He said the gurdwara gates had been left open and a vehicle sped into the parking lot followed by some other vehicles from which some people fired at the person in the first vehicle.

He said the body was laying in the parking lot.

Richmond RCMP could not tell The VOICE anything on Friday night about the reported shooting.
