NORTH Vancouver RCMP are investigating an early morning shooting at a residence in North Vancouver.
On Sunday, August 24, police were alerted by a homeowner in the 900-block of Tollcross Road who heard a loud bang and subsequently discovered bullet holes. North Vancouver RCMP frontline officers attended the scene and located evidence indicating that shots had been fired at the residence. Witnesses reported hearing shots fired at approximately 4 a.m. The residence was occupied at the time, but fortunately, no one was injured.
Global BC reported on Tuesday that property records show the home is owned by the speed boat operator involved in a deadly speed boat collision in the waters off Cates Park last June.
A 10-year-old boy was killed and another child was taken to hospital in critical condition on June 8 when a scarab motor boat struck them as they were being towed on an inflatable tube. The boat operator was arrested following the collision, and released on a promise to appear in court.
Global BC noted that the shooting occurred just days before his scheduled August 27 court date.
“This is an unsettling incident that understandably causes concern in the community,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for North Vancouver RCMP, on Monday. “The active investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the North Vancouver RCMP Investigative Services Section. At this time, the motive remains under investigation and there is no known threat to public safety.”
Police are asking anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage, or information related to this incident to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
