SURREY Police Service on Monday told The VOICE that police are investigating a shots fired incident that appears to have occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 7 “outside a number of businesses” located in the 6600-block of 152A Street.
The SPS said police were only informed on Monday morning — two days after the incident — about it.
“As the investigation is still in its very early stages, it is too early to comment on what the possible motive may be. That remains under investigation,” police said.
No one was injured.
South Asian media are reporting that Reflections Banquet Hall was also targeted. One report said that the property owner, Satish Kumar, who is the President of Surrey’s Laxmi Narayan Mandir, claimed he had received an extortion call demanding $2 million before the shooting incident. He reportedly told the caller that he would not give them any money and added that he would not be intimidated.
Meanwhile, SPS are investigating two shots fired incidents that targeted the same house on May 14 and May 26 in the 12000-block of Coulthard Road in Panorama Ridge. Police say the shootings were the handiwork of extortionists.
The suspects were apparently brazen enough to carry out the second shooting in spite of police installing a highly visible tower with surveillance cameras outside the house after the first shooting occurred. Both shootings took place at 3 a.m.
The media feel that Surrey Police Service is not being upfront about informing them about shooting incidents.
