ON Wednesday, June 11 at approximately 3:45 p.m., RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) frontline officers responded to calls of a shooting near the 15900 block 84 Avenue in Surrey’s Fleetwood area.
SPOSU officers located a male suffering life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving measures, one man succumbed to his injuries at scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken conduct of this investigation. This is Surrey’s third homicide of 2025.
The investigation is in the early stages and IHIT is working in partnership with Surrey Police Service and RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit officers to complete priority tasks.
Police said that while the motive is still under investigation, the incident does not appear to be linked to any ongoing investigations.
Community sources have identified the victim as Abbotsford businessman Satwinder Sharma. He was a prominent businessman who was a labour contractor and a property developer. He had received calls from extortionists some years ago, but this case may not be connected to extortion, a close friend of his told The VOICE.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
