SURREY RCMP say that a South Asian young man, Tabrez Hussein, who rushed to aid of a critically injured pedestrian on Monday (June 30) shortly after 8 a.m. at the intersection of 88th Avenue and 148th Street, may have saved her life.
Hussein told CTV that he was in bed when he heard the crash. When he went outside he found a young woman who had both her legs severed. Hussein, who knows first aid, frantically looked for something to stop the bleeding.
He used his own T-shirt to tie tightly around one of the woman’s legs and used a scarf from a bystander to tie around the second one.
Surrey RCMP said there was a two-vehicle accident that caused injuries to two pedestrians.
Officers at the scene spoke to several witnesses who stated that they observed a GMC van travelling south bound on 148th Street that was hit by a Tacoma pick-up truck going through the intersection, westbound on 88th Avenue.
The impact sent the truck into a bus stop where two females were waiting for the bus. One of the females suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital by ambulance, while the other suffered only minor injuries.
Both drivers involved remained at the scene. Investigators are working to determine the actions of both drivers prior to and during the collision.
The Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) investigated with the assistance of the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).
