LEADER of the Official Opposition, Andrew Wilkinson, released the following statement on Tuesday for Guru Nanak Gurpurab:
“Today we celebrate Guru Nanak Gurpurab, the 550th anniversary of the birth of the creator of Sikhism, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
“Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings and legacy have played a central role in the lives of millions of people over the past five and a half centuries and many of those people have come to make British Columbia their home.
“Our province is home to an incredible Sikh population and in recognizing this, the BC Liberal Government declared April as Sikh Heritage Month in 2017. It stands as a testament to the strength and influence of the Sikh community that has played a pivotal role in shaping British Columbia and contributing to our province’s culture, economy, and society as a whole.
“Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message of love, tolerance, and community service should be an inspiration to all British Columbians no matter their religious beliefs.
“On behalf of the entire BC Liberal Caucus I would like to wish all those commemorating this important occasion, both here in British Columbia and those all around the world, a joyous celebration of Guru Nanak Gurpurab.”
