SURREY Civic Theatres (SCT) has received a $90,000 grant from Department of Canadian Heritage for Summer POP! (Performances Outdoors in Parks) presentation series. The various showtimes for the series will run from July 9 through to September 12 at outdoor locations including Glades Garden, Bear Creek Park, and Darts Hill Gardens. The funding is part of the Canada Arts Presentation Fund Support for Workers in Live Arts and Music Sector Fund.
“The City of Surrey is proud to have continued its commitment to support artists and offer performing arts experiences for our community throughout the pandemic, first virtually and now live-in person,” said Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum. “Funding grants from the Department of Canadian Heritage provide significant assistance towards achieving these important goals. On behalf of Council, I want to thank the Federal Government for its ongoing support of Surrey’s art and heritage facilities, programs and services.”
Based on proposals received from an artist call in early March, Surrey Civic Theatres programming staff have curated an eclectic program of summer outdoor performing arts-based activities that includes performances by 24 different arts organizations from across the Lower Mainland, involving the efforts of approximately 115 artists. In addition, SCT have recalled production and front of house/box office staff to support the safe delivery of the programs, scheduled for City parks throughout July, August and into September.
The Summer POP! series opens July 9 at the Glades Garden with two nights of musical performances. Featured Friday, July 9 is a Classical Music Summer Sampler with performances by the Surrey City Orchestra Quintette and the BC Chinese Music Ensemble. This will be followed on Saturday, July 10 with an outdoor Celtic Kitchen Party featuring the Pat Chessell Band with opening act Reevay.
Tickets are now on sale and more information is available at Summer POP! (Performances Outdoors in Parks) or by calling the Surrey Civic Theatres box office at 604-501-5566.
