Surrey collision involving transit bus and pedestrian (update)

WED NIGHT UPDATE: A passenger told Global BC that the bus was overloaded and the driver’s view was obstructed. The driver allegedly shut the front door suddenly and a senior who was trying to board the bus had his leg caught in it and was dragged along. Passengers yelled for her to stop the bus and the driver allegedly told them to shut up as it was her bus. It took the driver some time to realize what was happening before she stopped the bus.

 

ON Wednesday at 3:15 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and transit bus near a bus stop located on King George Boulevard just north of 96 Avenue.

Several frontline officers attended the scene, along with Surrey RCMP Traffic Services and the Criminal Collision Investigation Team.

A 69-year-old male pedestrian was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The bus driver remained on scene and police are working to determine all circumstances that led to this collision.

The Criminal Collision Investigation Team has assumed conduct of the investigation and are asking for witnesses to come forward.

“The preliminary investigation indicates there were several passengers on board the 321 bus and waiting at the bus stop when this incident occurred,” sids Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer, Sgt. Tammy Lobb. “Anyone travelling on board the bus or waiting at the bus stop who witnessed this incident is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote police file 2023-177248.”
