THE City of Surrey said on Wednesday that it has finished the life-cycle replacement of two synthetic turf sports fields at Newton Athletic Park to sustain playability and player safety.
There are five full-sized FIFA artificial turf fields at Newton Athletic Park. They include lines and markings for soccer, mini soccer, and lacrosse.
They have covered and well-sheltered player, official, and spectator seating and are irrigated, making them more comfortable to play on during heat waves. The newest artificial field, installed in July, also includes tournament level LED field lighting.
The City of Surrey has over 200 outdoor athletic facilities including 17 synthetic turf fields that look and play like natural grass. They are open year-round and are available for rental by sports organizations and clubs.
Newton Athletic Park is a 22-hectare premiere sport and recreation destination with amenities including artificial turf and grass sports fields, cricket pitches, tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts, playgrounds, a rubberized walking loop and a spray park.
It is one of more than 200 parks that have active amenities such as sports fields, sport courts, playgrounds, community gardens or picnic areas.
Surrey is also home to over 600 other parks that protect natural areas, open space, and biodiversity as part of the larger green infrastructure network.
