THE City of Surrey’s Healthy Communities Section and Recreation Services division have received a $32,000 grant from the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society, enhancing the City’s ability to deliver vital community programs that promote youth development, health, and inclusion across the city.

The funding will support a range of impactful initiatives, including Surrey Slam Jam, Surrey Steps Up, food literacy programming, peer mentorship, Band-Aid, and job readiness programs. These programs help strengthen community connections and provide people with opportunities to thrive.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society for their generous donation of $32,000, which will significantly enhance our efforts to build a healthier, more vibrant, and inclusive Surrey,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke on Friday.

“This contribution not only provides vital funding for our community programs but also demonstrates a shared commitment to the well-being and development of our residents. Through initiatives like Surrey Slam Jam, Surrey Steps Up, and our food literacy and mentorship programs, we are empowering our youth, fostering stronger community ties, and creating opportunities for everyone to succeed.”

The donation reflects Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society’s long-standing commitment to supporting community well-being beyond emergency response.

“As firefighters, we’re committed to helping our communities thrive,” said Dylan Van Rooyen, Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society. “These programs offer young people the tools, confidence, and support they need to succeed—not just today, but well into the
future.”

This partnership is a strong example of how local collaboration can help build a healthier, more inclusive Surrey, says the City.
