Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke panicking about Surrey Police Service

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke

SURREY Mayor Brenda Locke has become a living joke in the City and across B.C. as she desperately tries every trick in her RCMP bag to try and prevent Surrey Police Service from taking over from the Mounties.

Her latest press release — “Surrey Mayor announces new Mayor’s Working Group on Public Safety” makes yet another desperate plea to keep the Mounties in Surrey.

Her plot with the RCMP bosses to rush through a 5-4 vote in Surrey City Council last year to keep the RCMP in the City has been thoroughly exposed by The Globe and Mail and other media.

The Globe and Mail showed how she had had a series of meetings with the RCMP bosses in October, November and December. The Council’s 5-4 vote included that of former RCMP officer Councillor Rob Stutt whose son was a Surrey RCMP constable at the time. And Surrey’s Ethics Commissioner has made it clear that Stutt should NOT have voted. If Stutt had not cast his vote in favour of the RCMP, there would have been a 4-4 tie.

Locke, her party’s councillors and the RCMP bosses tried to keep it all a secret, mocking democracy, the residents of Surrey and the B.C. Government.

As one Surrey newspaper put it: “Had Stutt not voted on Nov. 14, the Dec. 9 vote would not have come before council, nor would the June 15 in-camera vote have happened, as the Nov. 14 vote would have failed on a 4-4 tie.”

Locke made a horrible personal remark against Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth in her desperation and panic — apparently egged on by the Mounties. But she ended up with egg on her face!

The Province is expected to announce that the municipal policing transition will continue.

Locke, her party’s councillors and the RCMP bosses should all be criminally charged for this despicable behaviour, in my opinion.
